The NHS does great work to help people know the risks of smoking and ways that they can quit. But what about illicit tobacco?
The main requirement was to ascertain how young people get hold of illicit tobacco in the first place, which is a very sensitive research issue. A key factor was to look at the differing roles of friends and family and to develop a “purchasing model”, which together would give a greater insight into the reality of the situation.
Through detailed research and adopting a neutral position, Force-7 were able to gather, assess and present the information to the NHS in a highly effective report, giving information on why young people choose illicit tobacco and which brands are most popular, and also providing recommendations on how to move forward.
